Hello everyone! I am so excited about this review because this movie was amazing!! Almost everything about it was perfect. I thought it was one of the best book to movie adaptations that I have ever seen.
I will start with the things about the movie that I did not like, because there are not very many. The one big problem that I had with the movie was that Gale was whipped because he attacked a Peacekeeper. Whereas in the book, he is punished because he was illegally hunting. All the other problems were small. Like the head gamemaker did not show Katniss his watch. We did not get to see Katniss try on her wedding dresses. Also, Katniss's "pregnancy" was only talked about once, when Peeta announced it.
Now, let's move on to the good things. There are a lot. First of all, I loved the casting. I really loved how the cast showed the emotions that the characters were going through. Especially through the jabberjay scene. I don't think I could pick a better cast for this movie, I would not change one person. I also really liked how at the very start of the movie, when Gale and Katniss are hunting, it shows Katniss hallucination and thinking she killed another tribute. In this book we can clearly see that she is going through Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. But, in a movie I think it is harder to see that, and I think it was portrayed perfectly. This is another thing I loved about the movie. The parts that were removed, were okay. They did not remove any part of the book that was essential. Also, they added parts that had to be added. One of the big things that bothers me in book to movie adaptations, is that people remove essential parts of the book, and add pointless ones. This was not a problem in this movie. Another thing I really liked was that the beginning of the movie before they were back in the area, went very quickly. The only problem with that was I think people who have only seen the movies would be kind of lost. Us as readers understood what was happening, because we had read the book. I do like that the beginning was very fast because then we got to focus more on the arena. I was so happy that that they ended the movie exactly were the book ended. I thought the ending was perfect. So, needless to say I give this movie a 5 out of 5 stars. I have already ordered my DVD copy, and am probably going to see it in theaters again. A few people have told me that they were not going to go see it because they did not like the first movie. I highly recommend going to see Catching Fire, I think that it is a million times better than The Hunger Games movie. What did you think of the movie? Leave a comment or send me an e-mail. Thanks!
