I absolutely loved this movie. It was funny and amazing, but very, very heartbreaking. As always, there are spoilers in this rev
I would first like to talk about the acting and casting of this film because I thought it was brilliant. I think that Dane DeHaan and Jamie Foxx were perfect for their roles. I especially thought that Dane really embraced his character and he was one of the highlights of the movie for me. Andrew was absolutely wonderful in this movie. There were a few key scenes that you could really see how great of an actor he is. But, I think that the entire cast was perfect for this movie and I wouldn't replace anyone. Another thing that I really enjoyed was watching Emma and Andrew. They have such amazing chemistry and they work and act so well together.
Now, of course, I have to talk about Gwen's death. The only complaint I have is that I would of preferred if they would of waited until the third movie before she died. Personally, I have decided that when you know the character is going to die, it makes it a lot worse. Even though her death didn't happen exactly how it happened in the comics, I think that it was done perfectly, and I actually like how they did it in the movie better than how it happened in the comics. Andrew's acting was spectacular in her death scene and in the funeral scene. I think that that was one reason that her death in the movie was so powerful. He really showed all of Peter's emotions, the level of sadness and grief, and how hurt he was that he lost Gwen. When Aunt May was packing Uncle Ben's things and told Peter that he needed to do the same to move on from all the people he had lost, I got really scared. I thought that he was going to get rid of all of Gwen's things and all of her pictures. So, I was really relived when he left all of her pictures up around his bedroom.
Gwen and Peter's relationship was definitely one of my favorite parts of this movie. I thought that it was shown and expressed really well. I think that they did a really good job of showing the audience how much Peter loves Gwen. One thing that I thought was really cute was how Peter had all of the pictures of Gwen hanging all around his room. I also loved how when Gwen asked if he had been following her, he got really nervous. They will always be one of my favorite fictional couples.
When it comes to the plot of the movie, I thought that it was balanced very well. I think that they had the right amount of humor, romance, action and explanation of what had happened in Peter's past. The movie was definitely fast paced, but not in a bad way. I loved how the back story was explained in this film. One of my favorite scenes was at the beginning with Richard and Mary Parker. My favorite scene was the graduation scene. But, a close second was when Peter and Gwen were on top of the bridge and he told her that he would go to England with her. I also love the soundtrack for this movie. Another one of my favorite parts was after Peter learned that Gwen was leaving and they played "Gone, Gone, Gone" by Phillip Phillips. This is one of my favorite songs and it could not have been more perfect for what was happening in the story at that time. The only down side was that now I can't listen to that song without getting really sad.
The last thing that I want to talk about is the characters in the movie. I really liked how all of the characters were portrayed in this movie. In the last one, we really explored Peter and his past, but in this film, we got to see more of the other characters. Aunt May was easily one of my favorite characters. We got to see how hard she is willing to work and how much she truly loves Peter. I think this movie did a great job of showing Max Dillion's vulnerable and innocent side before he became Electro. I also loved the friendship between Peter and Harry. Well, I liked it before Harry turned evil and went kind of crazy. I think that everyone loved Peter's sarcasm. And, even though it eventually killed her, I really liked how independent Gwen was and how she wasn't going to let others control her.
As you can see, I don't really have any complaints about this movie. I am sure that I will go and see it a couple of more times before it leaves theaters. And, I will probably cry just as much, all over again, every time. What were your opinions about it? I would love to hear what you thought. Thanks!
iew! If you have not seen the movie yet, please come back after you have. This is definitely my favorite Spider-Man movie so far, and quite possibly my favorite movie at the moment.
